Every year, the Edgerton Pioneer Days Festival Committee looks forward to connecting with our community at the Edgerton Pioneer Days Festival. However, given the concerns around COVID-19, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Edgerton Pioneer Days Festival, which was scheduled for September 11th, 12th and 13th. The decision to cancel the Festival was a tough one, but a necessary one since concerns about COVID-19 have made the event no longer viable.

There were several reasons we came to this difficult decision. Predominantly, our top priority is the health and safety of our community members, volunteers, vendors and entertainers. Secondly, due to the stay at home orders this spring, the Pioneer Days Committee has been unable to hold necessary fundraisers to fund this year’s festival, or to actively solicit donations from local individuals and businesses. We are also concerned about the possibility that we would be required to social distance in September or that there would be limits on large groups of people. Additionally, the current price of meat has made it clear that we (and other community groups) may be unable to purchase necessary items for our concession stand and the dinners that are typically held during the festival weekend. Advertising costs for the festival are high enough that we fear spending the money only to have to cancel at the last minute. Finally, the Pioneer Days Committee is made up of a very small group of community members, and we simply feel unprepared to implement and enforce safety measures that may be in place in September.

The funds previously raised and collected for 2020 will be put towards funding the 2021 Edgerton Pioneer Days Festival. 2021 is a big year for us! In addition to being the State of Missouri’s Bicentennial (200th anniversary), the City of Edgerton will celebrate its Sesquicentennial (150th anniversary)! The first Edgerton Pioneer Days Festival was held in 1971 to celebrate Edgerton’s 100th anniversary, so 2021 marks 50 years of the Edgerton Pioneer Days Festival! And finally, the local American Legion Post #445 will celebrate 75 years in Edgerton next year. If you would like to be involved in the planning of this special celebration, please contact edgerton150years@gmail.com. We will hold a special t-shirt design contest for our 2021 celebration. The t-shirts will be sold throughout the year and during the 2021 Festival. More information on this contest and more will be available soon.
